Occasion guide

Plan an away-game weekend for supporters travelling together

Keep travel, an overnight stay and match day in one plan, and check the fixture's entry rules with official sources.

A checklist for the organizer

  • Collect each person's arrival time and how they travel.
  • Verify ticket and supporter entry rules for this fixture.
  • Agree the overnight arrangements for who stays.
  • Set a post-match meetup and a fallback if someone is late.
  • Confirm return bookings for everyone.

Check entry rules for each fixture

Local supporter restrictions may differ from one fixture to the next. Review the official information from the clubs and the organisers for this match before travelling, and do not rely on what applied last time. This guide does not state any entry, ticket or supporter rules.

A weekend outline to adapt

  1. Arrival: each person reaches the host city in their own way.
  2. Overnight check-in: who is staying where, and when.
  3. Match-day meetup: a named place and time before the match.
  4. The match: everyone in the area their ticket covers.
  5. Return: travel home, with departure times agreed.

Not everyone may share a ticket type or a journey, so check the order against who can actually be there at each point.

Agree the meetup and the way home

Name a place and a time for after the match, and agree what to do if someone is delayed. Confirm each person's return booking early, because last departures can be tight after a late fixture. Check timetables with the operator.

Agree how shared costs are split

Do not assume an equal split. Journeys and tickets belong to the people who take them, while a shared room or a post-match meal can be split among those who stay or eat. Record each cost against the people it covers, and agree the rule before anyone pays.

Keep one plan the group can check

Cairn's manual friends' weekend demo shows an itinerary, dinner attendance and an illustrative expense split among the six dinner attendees. It is a fictional demonstration, not an away-game trip or a created trip.
