Occasion guide
Dinner for some, curtain up for everyone
The tickets are booked. Some people want dinner first; others will meet you at the theatre. Keep those choices separate and give everyone the same checked arrival time, ticket-access plan and way home. A meal should fit around the performance, with enough time to reach the venue and enter without rushing.
Check the performance before setting dinner time
- Confirm the date, venue address, performance time and recommended arrival time against the booking and official venue information.
- Check how each person will access their ticket. Follow official transfer and ID rules; keep ticket codes and booking details private.
- Check the venue's late-admission policy. Someone arriving late may need to wait for a permitted break; do not promise immediate entry.
- Confirm any access or assistance arrangements directly with the venue and the person who needs them.
- Ask who is joining dinner separately from who holds a performance ticket. Book only for confirmed diners and check cancellation terms.
- Allow a realistic meal and transfer buffer, including the route, entrance queues and any ticket collection. If dinner runs late, agree to leave in time for entry.
Agree where to meet before and after the show
Choose a checked meeting place that does not obstruct the entrance. Give people skipping dinner their own arrival instruction, including who has their ticket if the group must enter together. Agree an after-show place and time before phones are put away.
“Meet at [checked place] by [arrival time]. After the performance, meet at [checked place] at [agreed time]. If we cannot contact each other, wait until [time], then follow [agreed journey-home plan].”
Replace the brackets with arrangements your group has verified. Check the expected finish time, last public-transport departures, walking route and pickup location. Keep a workable alternative if the performance finishes late. Do not depend on finding a taxi without checking availability; anyone needing help should use the venue's official assistance arrangements.
An evening outline to adapt
- Optional meal: confirmed diners meet, with a checked booking and an agreed time to leave.
- Theatre arrival: everyone follows the checked arrival instruction, collects or accesses tickets and enters under the venue's rules.
- Performance: follow the official programme and any interval arrangements; keep phones quiet as requested by the venue.
- Regroup and go home: use the agreed meetup, then travel in confirmed groups or independently.
This is an adaptable outline, not a performance schedule. Replace it with your actual booking, meal decisions and return journeys. A performance ticket does not commit someone to dinner.
Keep tickets, meals and rides as separate agreements
Six people attend the show; four join dinner. If those four agree to divide a fictional €100 dinner equally, each owes €25. The two who skip dinner stay outside that dinner split.
Record ticket repayments using the agreed actual ticket costs. A shared ride has its own passengers and cost rule. Agree how to handle a cancelled meal place, an unused ticket or a changed ride before anyone pays upfront; refunds depend on the booking terms. Equal division here is an example, not a default fairness rule.
Keep one plan the group can check
Cairn's manual friends' weekend demo shows an itinerary, dinner attendance and an illustrative expense split among the people joining that meal. It is a fictional demonstration, not a created trip or a theatre booking.
